Best Battleship: What battleship had the best guns

best battleship

The battleship was built around its guns. After our last article looking at the anti-aircraft firepower of various battleships from World War II and onward, we decided to continue our journey to discover the best battleship. In this article, we will examine how each battleship performed in anti-surface firepower. After looking at the anti-surface guns of each battleship, we will then compare them together. .This will allow us to determine what battleship had the best guns.

Notes:

[1] – Thought the German 10.5cm (4.1″) SK C/33 was primarily a heavy anti-aircraft weapon, it could serve as an anti-surface weapon. Because of this, I have decided to include it into the firepower figures for the Scharnhorst and Bismarck classes.

[2] – During the later half of World War II, Richelieu utilized shells supplied by the United States. This is why her projectile weights differ from her sister Jean Bart despite having the same naval gun.

[3] – While the 100mm Modele 1945 was intended to serve primarily as an anti-aircraft weapon, several publications suggest that the weapon can be used in the anti-surface role. For that reason, I have included it the calculations.
